Paddy Armstrong was incarcerated for 15 years for a crime that he had no connection to whatsoever. The wrongful conviction of the Guildford Four rocked the British judicial system to its core. The level of lies and corruption that lead to prison sentences for a group of four innocent friends went right to the top.
In the second episode of An Irishman Behind Bars, Paddy Armstrong explains to Jarlath that he may not still be alive today were he not put in prison (1:04:00), being forced by the British Police into giving a ’confession’ (1:10:00) and the ridiculous response from the judge when the IRA came forward and took full responsibility for the crime that he was accused of (1:22:00).
