S2 E7: Loss to Suicide with Nicola Sheridan
Hello and welcome back this week! Episode 7 already in Season 2, where is the time going? This week is a difficult, yet important conversation! Nicola sadly lost her brother Keith to suicide back in 2020, having no signs of suicidal ideation, Nicola recounts the days and months leading to Keith's death and what life has been like since his passing! Nicola gives us an insight into what grieving has been like as a sibling and describing it as "you never get over it, you just get on with it"! We discuss if as a society we are going to talk more about Mental Health than people like Keith who did seek support should be able to speak about that support in their day-to-day lives with no stigma attached!
So many of us suffer from silent depression and Nicola wants to share her story to inspire them to speak up and out and seek the help they need! She so bravely tells us what sort of person Keith was and how they cherish his memory! I hope if you are listening and your struggling, understand that there is help and so I wanted not just to talk about this but for this episode to serve a better purpose to those people affected and those who want to help those affected so I teamed up with ShareJoy for this episode. You can find them on Instagram @sharejoy_ie and here's a little about them:
ShareJoy is a digital charity initiative that aims to share the joy of fashion to support youth mental health organisations in Ireland and the UK. It launched in January 2021 with 20 Irish women opening up their wardrobes and donating items they love which were sold on the shopping app Depop. As ok March 2021, they have raised 16k for Pieta and in the coming months will be supporting other mental health charities. You can find ShareJoy on Instagram @sharejoy_ie and you can shop their depop shop over at depop.com/sharejoy. If you would like to check out their wellbeing resources or to make a direct donation, go to sharejoy.ie"
The Beauty of Truth
The Beauty of Truth podcast is designed to speak about the beautiful and ugly truths that live within the industries many of us work in today, and to discuss the hardships we face as a generation and how we can overcome them. At the end of each episode, I will ask my guest to reveal one wholehearted honest truth that they have never revealed before about their industry or themselves, it may be a story that horrifies the nation, a change they want to see happen, an opinion that they have never publicly stated, something that gives us the listener some realness. A beautiful truth.
