Season 1: Episode 6 - Life Of A New Silk
This episode is hosted by Fountain Court barrister Laura John and features a discussion with five of our newest QCs who each took silk in 2020.
Taking silk herself this year, Laura spoke to her peers about what to expect in her first 12 months. Amongst other things, they discussed the perceptions of silks and their traits and skills, the right time to apply for silk and the experience of that application process, the transition from junior to silk, and whether becoming a QC has met their expectations so far. Also discussed was the impact of the
pandemic on their first year in silk.
Joining Laura in the discussion are:
• Chloe Carpenter QC who has a broad commercial practice encompassing regulatory and disciplinary work and was shortlisted as Professional Discipline Junior of the Year at the Chambers Bar Awards in 2019, before taking Silk.
• Robin Barclay QC who specialises in international civil and commercial fraud, bribery, money laundering, market abuse and insider trading plus a wide range of banking, financial services, and regulatory and disciplinary investigations.
• Edward Levey QC who has a wide-ranging commercial and civil practice spanning commercial litigation and arbitration with particular specialisms in banking and finance, energy and natural resources, civil fraud, professional negligence, and professional discipline.
• Tamara Oppenheimer QC whose expertise includes aviation, banking and finance, commercial disputes, fraud, insurance, arbitration, and professional negligence. Tamara is also an expert in the law of privilege.
