We Love Joker Folie à Deux

This week on the podcast, we dive into three very different films, starting with White Bird, directed by Marc Forster and starring Helen Mirren. The film follows Julian, a boy who has been struggling with guilt after being expelled for bullying Auggie Pullman. Julian’s grandmother, played by Mirren, shares her powerful story of survival and first love in Nazi-occupied France.

Next, we discuss Joker: Folie à Deux, the highly anticipated sequel to Joker, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. Arthur Fleck returns as Joker, and this time, we meet Harley Quinn, his partner in chaos, as the two form a twisted bond within Arkham State Hospital.

We also go back to the horror classic Maniac, directed by William Lustig and starring Joe Spinell. This gritty 1980 film follows a deranged killer on a bloody rampage through New York City, influenced by his traumatic childhood and obsession with his mother.
